“These Drugs” – Single Review

Up-and-comer Baby Queen just released new single “These Drugs,” a powerful track about addiction.

“I wrote this song when I was in a really bad place which was characterised mostly by this idea that I wasn’t a good person and didn’t deserve good things,” Baby Queen – aka Bella Latham – said about the track

“I think for so long, there were so many parts of myself that I was refusing to acknowledge or pay attention to, and when you ignore your own pain or refuse to face up to your mistakes, you can get yourself into a self-destructive cycle, which is ultimately what ended up happening. I think escapism is necessary, and we all find our escape in different places, but some are just healthier than others.”

The accompanying video shows the artist in different bathrooms at different parties, casually singing lyrics like “I don’t wanna do drugs anymore // If you saw me through the eyes of a bathroom stall // your skin would crawl” and “Damned if I do and bored if I don’t // and I should get clean again but I won’t.”

It’s a raw and real look at addiction and the way it can be the thing that makes you feel your best and your worst. With lyrics this honest and the excellent vocals to deliver them with, Baby Queen is an artist that you’ll definitely be hearing more from in the next year.
