Exclusive Review: White Plains, NY Rapper City’s Dimetrius Album

After the release of his latest album Version One, I got a chance to speak to rapper City of White Plains, NY. His newest album Dimetrius is slated to release on Valentine’s Day and the anticipation is real. For those who don’t know, he along with the Ziploc team put out a mix-tape XI.XII.XV: In ZPLC We Trust with collaborations by Malley, Jonny Pri$e, TrillzCa$hTalk and more.

“I think people should listen to the album because it’s real, it’s honest, it’s me at my rarest.” he said.

City recently put out his newest record “Distance” featuring Cali5 and KC the illest. Both artists will be appearing on the album.

“My sound is nothing you can really describe. It’s music, it’s passion, it’s everything I grew up listening to,” he said.

Check out my interview with City below and keep your ears open for Dimetrius.

Fresh off your latest project XII Version One, what’s the feedback going from that one? And will there be part two coming later this year?

City: The feedback has been great to be honest. I wasn’t sure how the project would be received being that I teased at it for a while with title changes and random singles. So it seemed like the album wasn’t going to see the light of day, but I’m glad it did because it allowed me to create what I have now. As regards to Version II, we’ll see.

I believe 2017 is going to be a great successful year for you and your music, what you think?

City: All I can do is pray that success comes our way, we’ve done a lot of work over the years, but I do feel that this year will be the year of Ziploc Radio.

The title of the album is Dimetrius. What is the meaning of this album? Why that title?

City: I named the album after my first name. As I went to record this project, I didn’t know exactly what I was going to do. I intended on starting the recording process of XII: Version II…but it didn’t feel like the correct title. As I listened to all the records…. I realized how deep & personal they were, so I was kind of left with no choice. The album itself is about me, my life, my ups, my downs, my loves, my fears, my pain. Any angle you can think of, you get in the album.

How many tracks will be on the album?

City: There are about 12 tracks.

Any guests on the album?

City: KC the Illest came thru for “Distance” which is one of my personal favorite records. My homegirl Cali5 also helped with background vocals for the record. Besides that I was very selfish with this project. I allowed myself to fully take control creatively and [I’m] very proud of the outcome.

What made you want to release the album on Valentine’s Day?

City: I decided to release the album that day because all in all, the entire album is based on love. Without love, there’s no Dimetrius.

Is there a special record on the album that’s your most favorite?

City: Surprisingly yes! Even though I love the full album, the song “Clouds/Diamond In the Rough” has to be my favorite track.

What drew you to become this success as an artist, but most importantly become who you are now?

City: I don’t want to refer to it as a success just yet, more like a “work in progress”, but I work hard at my craft. I’m always studying the greats, learning as much as I can from their movements down to the art itself. I study all the songs I love and I love to find those sounds or vocals that no one really notice, little things turn into very big things sometimes.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years in the music industry?

City: All I can do is pray that I have my feet in the door and making the proper moves I need to make.

You have any special words to say to the fans who have supported you?

City: Anyone that takes the time out to listen to any of my music past, present and future. I thank you from the bottom of my heart, you’ll never understand how much it means to me.
