Guspy To Release His Debut Single “STEEZ LUÍZ” On 2/26

Cameron DeFaria

Santa Ana-based indie artist Guspy has officially announced his debut single “STEEZ LUÍZ” will release everywhere next Friday, February 26th.

Anything but another mainstream copycat, Guspy delivers a truly unique blend of ska, indie pop, and surf rock in his upcoming single. This modern reggae groove, embellished with hip hop percussion and apathetic yet poetic vocals, is sure to make you feel as though you’re cruising down the boardwalk, or in a smoke-filled basement somewhere in Venice Beach.

Guspy draws inspiration from the likes of Omar Apollo, Kevin Parker, and Khruangbin. But fans of ska acts such as Slightly Stoopid, Rebelution, or Sublime will surely find pleasure in giving “STEEZ LUÍZ” a thorough listen. This “psychedelic-turned-808 tale of love and heartbreak” contains the stupid puns and metaphors often found in ska-punk music.

According to Guspy himself, this song “explores the dichotomy between the seemingly contradictory yet co-existing highs of love and lows of loss”. His early obsessions of poetry and punk rock have shaped him into the artist he is today.

Having taught himself guitar, bass, and drums by the age of 15, Guspy is about to deliver an excellent debut single that conveys his own authentic musicianship. The song’s tight digital production layered over bona fide guitar riffs demonstrate a special innovation in the reggae genre.
