Jewel Chang’s acoustic performance of “Fake Friends” in this live session definitely took us by surprise with the amount of soul and conviction she has at only 13 years old. Her songwriting has also evolved well beyond her years and this particular song definitely proves that. Right before this session, Jewel and her parents told us about how this song transpired based off her own friends and personal life. At only 13 years old, Jewel has already proven a level of maturity that even older artists still have yet to find and is well versed in taking personal experiences and expressing it through music that’s relatable to listeners of all ages. With production and songwriting assistance from fellow artists Avalon Young and Idrise, “Fake Friends” is an acoustic and melodic song about the dark side of friendship in which we can all relate to.
